SCHUMANN Symphony no. 3 "Rhenish"
Soloist: Emily Davis
Conductor: Andrew Morley
One of the world’s most popular violin concertos, a delightfully melodic symphony inspired by a Rhineland cruise and a dramatic little tale about a wicked witch make up the programme for the Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra’s annual highlight concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, in St Paul’s Church, Inner Park Road, SW19 6DA on Saturday, 17 March at 7.30pm.
But this is just the musical menu - ticket prices also include a sumptuous finger buffet with wine and soft drinks included.
Emily Davis is soloist in Tchaikovsky’s passionate Violin Concerto. Schumann’s 3rd Symphony “The Rhenish” was inspired by his holiday in the Rhineland with his wife Clara and Dvorak’s The Noonday Witch is a macabre little tone poem about a mother who threatens to call a witch to her naughty son – with tragic consequences. The Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Andrew Morley.
The refreshments prepared by the Macmillan Merton Committee are always as irresistible as the music.
